Hartford, Conn. - With the month of September winding to a close, this year's third Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the soccer pitch and football field. Senior women's soccer tri-captain Julia Pitino (Littleton, Mass.) and senior football tri-captain Sonny Puzzo (West Caldwell, N.J.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Pitino tallied two shutouts last week to lead the women's soccer team to a 1-0-1 week. The senior captain stopped the only two shots she faced in a scoreless draw against Emerson for her first clean sheet of the fall. Pitino followed up that performance with another two-save shutout against Colby on Saturday in Trinity's first conference win of the season. Pitino currently ranks tied for fourth in the conference with 24 total saves.
Puzzo passed for 192 yards and a career-high four touchdowns as Trinity cruised to a 51-0 rout of Bates College last weekend. Puzzo threw a pair of scores in both the first and second quarters as Trinity opened up a 45-0 lead at the half. All four of his touchdown passes also came as career first touchdown receptions for the Bantams on the receiving end. Puzzo leads the league in completion percentage (.692), passing efficiency (204.5) and is third in the conference in passing touchdowns (6) and yards per attempt (10.7) as Trinity leads the league in scoring (43.0 ppg).
