Pine Valley, N.Y. - Senior forward Ryan Cole (Anchorage, Alaska) scored the game's last two goals to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 4-2 victory over the Elmira College Soaring Eagles in men's ice hockey action this evening at Murray Center. Trinity, 2-0-1 in its last three games, closes the fall semester at 5-3-1. Elmira drops to 4-8 with its first loss in four games.
Cole scored the game-winner with 2:26 left in the middle period with assists provided by junior forward Tyler Whitney (Wakefield, Mass.) and sophomore forward Ryan Pfeffer (Canton, Mass.). Trinity sophomore goaltender Alex Morin (St. Hubert, Quebec) made 10 of 29 saves in the third frame to keep the Soaring Eagles at bay, and Cole notched an empty netter with 53 seconds on the clock to ice it for the Bantams.
Trinity led, 2-1, after the first frame with all three goals scored over a span of 1:26 early in the game. Trinity junior forward Anthony Sabitsky (Sicklerville, N.J.) scored unassisted during a Elmira power play 4:48 into the game, and Soaring Eagle forward Nick Ford scored 58 seconds later to tie it. Cole assisted senior forward Sean Orlando (Ivyland, Pa.) on the second Bantam goal 6:34 into the opening period, and the teams combined for 28 penalty minutes but no scoring the for the remainder of the first frame. Joseph Hall scored for the home team midway through the secons stanza to knot it back up at 2-2.
The team combined for 73 minutes in penalties including 48 for the Soaring Eagles, but no goals were scored on the nine power plays by the team with the advantage. Each team had 31 shots, as Elmira goalie Parker Butler made 27 saves. Trinity is off for 20 days before visiting the USA Under-18 squad for an exhibition on December 30 and No. 2-ranked Adrian the next day.
