Hartford, Conn. - The 16th Bantam of the Week of the 2019-20 sports season has been selected thanks to strong performances on the court and in the pool. Men's squash first-year Miko Aijanen (Jarvenpaa, Finland) and women's swimming and diving sophomore Serena Ly (West Newton, Mass.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Aijanen went 3-0 at the top of the Trinity lineup, leading the No. 2-ranked Bantams to three victories in three days during last week's trip down the Atlantic Coast. Aijanen, who has played No. 1 for the Bantams since the first match of his collegiate career, opened the week with a 3-2 win in an 8-1 victory at No. 9-ranked George Washington last Tuesday. He won, 3-0, in a 9-0 triumph at Navy the next day, and closed with a 3-1 win against one of the nation's top players to help Trinity blank No. 5-ranked Drexel, 9-0, on Thursday.
Ly led the Bantams to a 202-86 road win against Brandeis on Saturday, winning both breaststroke races. She posted a first-place time of 32.29 in the 50-yard breaststroke and a winning mark of 1:10.44 to earn valuable points toward the Bantams' team victory. In 200-yard medley relay, Ly teamed with Grace Gorman Emily Murphy, and Olivia Fournier for a first-place time of 155.69 to get the Bantams off to a fast start against the Judges.
