Hartford, Conn. - The 33rd Bantams of the Week of 2019-20 has been selected, and with the cancellation of the 2020 Trinity College spring sports seasons, we are honoring our spring senior student-athletes. These athletes were denied the opportunity to compete in their final collegiate season by the COVID-19 outbreak, but have handled the incredibly unfortunate and disappointing situation with the courage and grace that makes us proud to name them as Bantams of the Week. This week's honorees are the four members of Trinity's men's track and field senior class who would have completed their careers in championship events over the last few weeks. They are senior co-captains Timothy Bogomolov (Lynn, Mass.) and Ace McAlister (Shasheman, Ethiopia), and seniors Erick Pena (Sarasota, Fla.), and Jyles Romer (Nassau, Bahamas).
Trinity Athletics created the Bantams of the Week award to spotlight outstanding student-athletes who have performed at an extremely high level while representing the Bantams in varsity sporting competition.
Bogomolov competed in the 3,000-meter run this winter, finishing among the top four in four of his six races. He was also a Trinity cross country captain, earning USTFCCCA All-Academic and NESCAC All-Sportsmanship honors with that squad. He received a Blanket Award this spring for collecting nine varsity letters in his Trinity sports career.
McAlister is a highly-decorated cross country and distance runner who earned All-American honors this winter in the 5,000-meter run. He has been a National Qualifer and All-New England honoree in both cross country and track and field, and earned a Connecticut Courage Award for athletic excellence in the face of diversity this winter. McAlister also received both a Blanket Award for collecting nine varsity letters in his Trinity sports career and a Robert R. Bartlett Award for his athletic excellence and commitment to campus and/or community service this spring.
Pena has been a sprinter with the Bantams since joining the squad as a sophomore. Competing in the 400-meter dash, Pena had a pair of top-ten finishes and and ran a leg of Trinity's winning 4x400-meter relay in the Triangle Invitational at Springfield.
Romer has been a jumps and sprints competitor with the Bantams since joining the squad as a sophomore. He had three top-ten finishes in the triple jump this winter, and won the event in the 2019 Trinity Invitational last April.
