El Defrawy and Papadeas Named Bantams of the Week

Hartford, Conn. – With the winter athletics season in full swing, the academic year’s 22nd athletes of the week have been named due to their strong performances on the court as junior Kanzy El Defrawy (Cairo, Egypt) of the women’s squash team and men’s basketball senior center George Papadeas (Athens, Greece) have been tabbed as the Bantams of the Week for their outstanding individual performances from February 26th through March 2.

Each week, the Trinity athletics website spotlights two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes are chosen based upon their efforts both on the field of competition.

El Defrawy finished second in the Ramsay “A” Division at the College Squash Association (CSA) National Women's Singles Championships today at Princeton University's Jadwin Courts last week. To get to the championship match, she won three times on the first two days of the event, all by 3-0 scores. In the championship match, she took the first game, 11-9, before losing the next three to four-time champion Amanda Sobhy of Harvard. She was also named the 2014-15 NESCAC Player of the Year earlier this winter.

Papadeas scored a team-high 12 points and pulled down a game-best seven rebounds in a 55-52 loss to eventual conference champion Wesleyan in the NESCAC Semifinals. The big man was a force in the post as he knocked down 6-of-9 from the field while recording one steal, one assist and two blocks. In 27 minutes of action, six or his seven boards came on the defensive end.
