El Defrawy, Ismail Named as Bantams of the Week

Hartford, Conn. - With the spring season upon us, the year's 22nd athletes of the week have been named thanks to their strong performances on the squash courts. Senior women's squash co-captain Kanzy El Defrawy (Cairo, Egypt) and junior men's squash co-captain Affeeq Ismail (Kuching, Malaysia) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.

Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

El Defrawy won all three of her matches last weekend at the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships, hosted by Yale University, to cap off a week in which she was also named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Year for the fourth time in her career. El Defrawy beat her opponent from Princeton on Sunday in straight sets to ensure a third place finish for Trinity in the Howe Cup Finals.

Ismail also won all three of his matches this weekend at the CSA National Team Championships at Yale University. Ismail dominated his opponent on Friday in the quarterfinals, 11-6, 11-5, 11-3, and followed that performance with a clutch 3-0 victory in the No. 6 slot against Rochester on Saturday. On Sunday in the third place match between the Bantams and St. Lawrence, Trinity edged out a 5-4 team win thanks in part to Ismail's 3-1 victory in the first wave.
