Hartford, Conn. - With spring weather still no where in sight, this year's 19th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the squash and basketball courts. Women's squash junior Julia LeCoq (Creteil, France) and men's basketball junior Eric Gendron (Merrimack, N.H.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
LeCoq dominated over the weekend to help lead the women's squash team to its 11th-straight NESCAC Championship. Playing in the No. 5 spot in the Bantam ladder, LeCoq yielded just six points to her Colby counterpart in the quarterfinals before earning a 3-0 sweep over her Bates opponent in the semifinals, all via 11-3 set wins. LeCoq allowed just nine points from her Williams College opponent in the finals, capped off by an 11-1 victory in the clinching set.
Gendron had a big week for men's hoops, scoring a career-high 25 points against No. 9-ranked Tufts on Saturday thanks to an 8-for-14 shooting performance. Against the Jumbos, Gendron also added four assists and three steals. Gendron chipped in 12 points off the bench for the Bantams in their win against Bates, connecting on 7-of-8 shots from the charity stripe and adding three assists and a steal as well. He is currently third on the team in scoring (10.2 ppg) and ranks sixth in the NESCAC in three-point shooting (.417).
