Hartford, Conn. - With the 2017 fall season officially underway, this year's first Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the volleyball court and golf course. Sophomore volleyball OH Colette Scheffers (Flossmoor, Ill.) and junior golfer Ace Ensign (Sudbury, Mass.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Scheffers led the Bantams with 42 kills, four aces and 42 digs in the first week of the season. The Illinois native started the year with 17 kills and 16 digs in a five-set loss to Eastern Connecticut State on Friday and followed that with a .286 hitting percentage in a 3-2 win against Clark on Saturday. She came into the week leading the team and ranking fifth in the NESCAC with 3.23 kills per set.
Ensign tied for medalist honors with a two-day score of 148 to help lead the Trinity College "B" squad to second place in the season-opening Bill Detrick Golf Invitational last weekend at Indian Hill Country Club. Ensign tied Western New England's John Abbott for the lowest round on Saturday at 73 and shot 75 on Sunday to finish at 148.
