Hartford, Conn. - With the start of spring semester classes less than a week away, this year's 17th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances in the water and on the squash court. First-year women's swimmer Nicole Cannon (Thornton, Pa.) and sophomore men's squash player Kush Kumar (Chennai, India) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Cannon played a huge role in helping the Bantams to a 2-1 weekend. Cannon was a part of Trinity's first-place foursome in the 200-yard medley relay to start the weekend in a victory over Clark University on Friday, and also won both the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke races. She also registered a second-place time of 2:23.92 in the 200-yard individual medley against Mt. Holyoke and Vassar, and was once again a part of the 200-yard medley relay squad that placed second in Saturday's meet.
Kumar had a stellar week of squash, helping the top-ranked Bantams improve to 5-0 to start the season. Kumar posted a 3-1 win at the top of the ladder for Trinity against No. 4 Columbia, after losing the first game, 11-7, giving Osama Khalifa, the No. 1 player in the country, his first loss of the year. Kumar is currently 5-0 for the Bantams this winter and 15-4 in his career, to date.
