Hartford, Conn. - As we bid farewell to the month of January, this year's 19th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the track and ice. Women's indoor track and field junior Anna Barnes (Storrs, Conn.) and junior men's hockey forward Mark Knowlton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Barnes had a dominant weekend at the Springfield College Massasoit Invitational. Barnes bested the field in the mile and 800-meter run in the team's first action of the spring semester back in New England. Barnes turned in a first-place, 2:20.99 finals time in the 800-meter run and added a first-place finish in the mile run, finishing in 5:17.48, more than five seconds ahead of the field. Barnes was also part of the Bantam 4x400-meter relay team that finished with a 4:12.97 finals time to take second place, less than a second off the top time.
Knowlton finished with three points to help lead the Bantams to a 2-0 weekend and maintain a stranglehold on first place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Knowlton had an assist on Trinity's first goal of the game in a 3-1 victory over Hamilton and found the back of the net twice in a 5-2 victory over Amherst to cap off the weekend. The junior has five points to date on three goals and a pair of assists.
