Hartford, Conn. - With February finally upon us, this year's 20th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the squash courts and ice. Women's squash sophomore Vanessa Raj (Penang, Malaysia) and senior men's hockey goalie Alex Morin (St. Hubert, Quebec) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Raj went 4-0 last week to help lead the women's squash team to their 12th-straight NESCAC Championship. Raj provided some highlights in the first wave of Trinity's match early in the week against Harvard, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to win three in a row and win, 3-2, at No. 6 in the lineup. The second-year player followed with a dominant showing in the NESCAC Tournament, outscoring her opponents 99-34 in three matches without dropping a single game at the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Raj is a perfect, 8-0 on the year so far.
Morin posted a .940 save percentage over the weekend, making 23 saves against Williams and 24 in a 3-0 shutout of Middlebury, his seventh shutout of his career. His victory over Williams also was also the 50th of his career. The senior was also selected as one of ESPN Hockey's Greatest Players of the World of the Week thanks to his outstanding performance. Morin ranks second in the NESCAC in goals allowed average (1.80 GAA) while playing over 1,000 minutes in net so far (2nd most in NESCAC). Morin is saving 93.0% of shots he sees and is 13-3-2 on the year (.778 win percentage, 7th in nation among goalies with 10+ games played).
