Hartford, Conn. - As we begin the spring sports season, this year's 24th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the squash courts. Women's squash senior tri-captain Raneem Sharaf (Cairo, Egypt) and men's squash senior tri-captain Omar Allaudin (Lahore, Pakistan) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Sharaf went 1-1 in the "A" Division (Ramsay Trophy) Tournament in last weekend's College Squash Association (CSA) National Singles Championships. Sharaf cruised in the opening round with a 3-0 victory over Tanvi Khanna of Columbia to reach the tournament quarterfinals. Sharaf ultimately fell to Sabrina Sobhy of Harvard, 3-1. Sharaf, a 1st Team All-NESCAC selection this winter, caps off her collegiate career with an impressive 58-19 record after playing atop the Bantam ladder this season.
Allaudin grinded out a 3-2 win in the finals of one of the four CSA National Men's Squash Singles Championship "B" Division (Molloy Trophy) Tournaments at George Washington last weekend. Allaudin fell behind, 2-1, after taking the first game, 11-9, as Pennsylvania's David Yacobucci won the second game, 13-11, and the third, 11-5. Allaudin rallied to take the next two games, 11-7, and, 11-4, to clinch the match. This is the first singles bracket championship that Allaudin has claimed after reaching the semifinals of the same tournament last season. Allaudin caps off his collegiate career with a remarkable 72-8 record.
