Hartford, Conn. - As we leave the month of January in the rearview, this year's 19th Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the ice and on the squash courts. Women's hockey rookie Katie Marsden (Hessle, England) and men's squash sophomore Ziad Sakr (Tanta, Egypt) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Marsden scored her first career hat trick to help lead Trinity to a 3-2 win over Colby. She scored three straight goals in the third period with the Bantams trailing, 1-0, including two power play strikes. Marsden also added a goal earlier in the week against Plymouth State for a four-point week. Marsden is second on the team with 12 points (T12th in NESCAC) and is tied for sixth in the lead in power play goals (3) and second in rookie scoring.
Sakr went 3-0 last week to help lead the Bantams to three victories. Against No. 7 Yale, he won 3-0, (11-4, 11-6, 11-6) before adding another 3-0 sweep at the No. 4 spot in Trinity's 6-3 victory over top-ranked and previously undefeated Penn. Sakr capped off the week with another clean sweep, this time in the No. 3 spot in the lineup, in a 9-0 Bantam victory over Williams.
