Hartford, Conn. - With the month of April officially behind us, this year's 33rd Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the track and in the water. Women's track and field senior co-captain Lauren Barrett (Peabody, Mass.) and the Trinity men's rowing varsity eight have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Barrett finished third in the 10,000-meter run at the Division III New England Championships over the weekend at Williams College. Barrett turned in a time of 38:24.36 to earn All-New England honors and help the Bantams finish tied for fourth in the team standings with 50 points. The race was a personal record for Barrett who ran the event for the first time ever.
The men's rowing varsity eight finished fourth in the grand final with a time of 6:12.10 in the New England Rowing Championship (NERC) Championships over the weekend on Lake Quinsigamond. Trinity's crew, made up of seniors Paul Swetz (Waban, Mass.) and Abby Hart (Chester, Vt.), junior Jack Reid (Deerfield, N.H.), sophomores Aidan Lee (Cambridge, Mass.), Nicholas Filosa (New York, N.Y.), Peter Teel (Cumberland, R.I.), Nicholas Roll (Pelham Manor, N.Y.), Tyler Somerville (North Salt Lake, Utah) and first-year Tyler Brennan (New Canaan, Conn.), finished just 1.3 seconds behind third-place Williams and .195 seconds faster than fifth-place Tufts. In the NERC Overall Points Trophy Standings, Trinity came in sixth place with 51.05 points.
