Hartford, Conn. - As the fall sports season enters the home stretch, this year's sixth Bantams of the Week have been named, thanks to their strong performances on the soccer field and volleyball court. Volleyball sophomore setter Jessica Yang (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) and sophomore men's soccer forward Alistair Matule (Charlestown, Mass.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Yang tallied 130 assists in a 3-1 week for the Bantams, averaging 10.00 assists per set. Yang recorded a season-high 53 assists in Trinity’s victory over Hamilton, where she also had 15 digs. Yang added seven aces throughout the week, as well as 13 kills from the setter position. She ranks seventh in the NESCAC in assists per set (8.18) and fifth in total assists (548).
Matule scored both Trinity goals against Middlebury and added two assists earlier in the week versus Western Connecticut State for a six-point week. Matule scored in the 19th minute and 24th minute to give the Bantams an early, 2-0 lead over Middlebury, and added helpers on Trinity's first and last goals of the game versus the Colonials. Matule leads the Bantams with 13 points (T2nd in NESCAC) on five goals (T2nd in NESCAC) and three assists.
