Trinity Athletics Announces Nominees For 2020 Bantam Award

Trinity Athletics Announces Nominees For 2020 Bantam Award

Hartford, Conn. - Trinity College Athletics has announced the five nominees for the 2020 Bantam Award.  The Bantam Award was established in 1976 by Raymond Montgomery in the name of the Trinity class of 1925. It is presented annually to a non-student who has made a distinguished contribution to the Trinity sports program.  With the cancellation of Trinity's annual Athletic Awards Ceremony, we are celebrating those considered for these awards virtually over the next two weeks.  The Bantam award candidates were each nominated by a member of the Trinity Athletic Department.  The nominees are Peter Duncan '81, P'13, P'14, Trinity Associate Professor of Biology Lisa-Anne Foster, Trinity College Grounds Manager Shawn Morrell, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions Courtney Roach '16, and Madison Sinkfield '19.

Peter Duncan is a member of Trinity's Board of Trustees and the chair of the athletic piece of Trinity's Capital Campaign.  Duncan earned a bachelor's degree in American Studies from Trinity, and has more than 30 years of experience in commercial real estate acquisition, financing, repositioning, management, and leasing, all at George Comfort & Sons, Inc. where he is the controlling partner of the company and its president and CEO.  Duncan was a member of Trinity's men's ice hockey and men's lacrosse teams.

Lisa-Anne Foster has been the faculty/staff liaison for Trinity's men's ice hockey program for several years, and consistently goes above and beyond to serve our student-athletes. Foster attends many practices and most games, both home and away. She has a genuine interest and care for each of them that goes well past the responsibility of a faculty/staff liaison. Foster's selflessness and hard work are considered an integral piece to the team's success.  Her work at Trinity focuses on bacteria and infectious diseases, and Foster fully involves her students in her research.  Many of Foster's students have pursued graduate or medical school after graduating from Trinity.

Shawn Morrell has been working in the college's grounds department for about 15 years. During this time, he has gotten to know and work closely with all of our fall and spring coaches and administrative staff. Morrell and his staff are on site for all home contests, making sure lines are painted, grass is cut, fields are plowed, nets are in place, bases are out, banners are hung, etc. He works around the clock to ensure our facilities are ready every day for students to use. Morrell is on call to most of our staff to answer all questions and accommodate requests that are often out of the blue, last minute, or seem impossible.  He often attends Trinity hockey games with his family on his weekends off, showing support for all of our athletes and staff.

Courtney Roach is a true advocate for athletics through the admissions process, working diligently with coaches to help Trinity field tremendous classes of student-athletes.  In her role as an admissions liaison to several Trinity teams, Roach is a great positive voice for Trinity Athletics in the admissions office.  A 2016 graduate of the college, Roach is responsible for New Hampshire, New York City, and Texas. She is also a classically trained flautist and pianist.

Madison Sinkfield earned the Trinity Athletics Silver Award as an undergraduate last spring for the excellence she displayed in her role as the scorekeeper for the Trinity men's basketball team.  In this vital position, Sinkfield works closely with the coaching staff, players, game officials, and sports communications staff.  Sinkfield agreed to continue in this role in 2019-20 for Trinity's men's and women's basketball teams to provide the programs the consistent work required in that position.  While at Trinity, she held leadership roles in both the Caribbean Students' Association and Imani Black Student Union.  She earned her bachelor's degree from Trinity in mathematics and is a teacher in Springfield, Massachusetts.
