Hartford, Conn. - Softball junior co-captain Gillian Birk (Westport, Conn.) has received the 2020 Board of Fellows Award as the Trinity College Junior Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. With the cancellation of Trinity's annual Athletic Awards Ceremony, we are celebrating those considered for these awards virtually over the next two weeks. The Board of Fellows Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award was established by the Board in 1979 and is presented annually to the junior woman who is voted most outstanding in athletics and scholarship.
Birk, a 2019 NESCAC All-Academic honoree, hit .283 last spring with 28 hits (2nd on team) in 99 at-bats, 13 runs, four doubles (2nd on team), one home run, and 12 RBIs in her second season as a starter at 1B for the Bantams. The Trinity softball team, coached by Molly Rathbun (1st Season), was set to head to Central Florida to begin its 2020 campaign when the season was cancelled. A graduate of Staples High School, Birk has a 3.94 g.p.a. as a psychology major at Trinity. She is the daughter of Susan and Harold Birk.
