Lexington, S.C. - The Trinity College baseball team kicked off its spring break trip to the Palmetto State in style, drubbing Roger Williams University, 17-3, on Saturday morning at the Lexington County Stadium. The Bantams win their third straight to start the season 3-0 while the Hawks fall to 3-6. Trinity returns to action tomorrow morning for a tilt versus Case Western at 10 a.m.

Trinity fell behind early, giving up a pair in the top of the first before coming back with four unanswered runs in back-to-back innings. The Bantams then put up an eight-spot in the home half of the third. A lone run in the top of the third was the last of the game for Roger Williams as the Bantams scored once more in the sixth and twice in both the seventh and eighth innings to put an exclamation mark on the day.

Five Trinity players finished with multiple hits, led by senior tri-captain 1B Johnny Stamatis (Ridgefield, Conn.), junior tri-captain C Alex Rodriguez (South Windsor, Conn.) and rookie SS Vincent Capone (Ambler, Pa.) who recorded three each. Capone scored a game-high four runs out of the leadoff spot and cranked a solo homer in the sixth, the first of his career. Stamatis, Rodriguez and senior DH Tyler Buckley (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) each finished the day with three RBIs apiece with all three of Buckley's coming on a three-run blast in the third.

Junior Andrew DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) picked up the win on the bump for Trinity, scattering six hits across five innings while striking out five. Rookies John Spaller (Washington, D.C.), Shayne Rice (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Max Barsamian (Weston, Mass.) held the Hawks scoreless in a combined four innings of relief after DeRoche. Trinity committed just one error all game while the Hawks were plagued by five fielding miscues.
