Trinity's Chipouras Adds New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award to Weekly Honors List

Hartford, Conn. - Trinity College senior tri-captain RB Max Chipouras (Longmeadow, Mass.) was selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week as well as the New England Football Writers Division III Gold Helmet Award winner for his clutch play in Trinity's 27-16 victory over previously undefeated Amherst. Chipouras was also honored as a Noontime Sports Offensive Star of the Week and sophomore DE James Christiano (Middlebury, Conn.) was a Noontime Sports Defensive Star of the Week.

Chipouras rushed 24 times for 203 yards and scored on touchdown runs of three and 70 yards in the victory as the Bantams now control their own destiny in the team's quest for its third consecutive NESCAC title. His first touchdown tied the game at 13-13 late in the second quarter, while his second touchdown made it a two-possession game late in the fourth quarter. Chipouras also caught one pass for five yards.  Christiano registered six total tackles, including four solo stops, three tackles for a loss of 25 yards, two sacks for a loss of 19 yards and one forced fumble against the Mammoths.

The senior tri-captain was previously named NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week after his tremendous play in the Bantams' season-opening, 35-0 win at Colby. Against the Mules, Chipouras rushed 15 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. He averaged 11.5 yards per carry, scored the game's first points on a four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and added scoring scampers of two and 64 yards later in the game.
