Springfield, Mass. - First-year forward Casey Quinn (Providence, R.I.) scored the clinching goal from senior tri-captain Sarah Duncan (Dedham, Mass.) in the second minute of overtime to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 victory over the Springfield College Pride in field hockey action this evening on Stagg Field. Trinity improves to 6-5 with its first win in four games after three straight setbacks to teams ranked in the top ten nationally. Springfield falls to 3-9. Duncan ran down the right side of the field and sent a cross-pass into Quinn who tapped it in for the game-winner.
Trinity got on the board early, scoring the game's first goal in
the sixth minute. Senior midfielder Julia Rivera (Silver Spring,
Md.) took a shot off a corner penalty and classmate Paige Duke
(Dedham, Mass.) came in for the finish, one-timing it into the back
of the net for her second goal of the season. With 23:25 left
in the game, Trinity sophomore forward Olivia Tapsall (Old
Greenwich, Conn.) had a breakaway, but goalie M.K. Murray
(Killingworth, Conn.) came up big for Springfield with a takeaway
to preserve the one-goal game.
Springfield took advantage in the 53rd minute, when Kelly Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) struck for her eighth goal of the season. Katie Gill (Wallingford, Conn.) got the assist as the Pride tied the game up at a goal apiece. Springfield almost capitalized on a corner with just three minutes left in the game. Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) ripped a shot, but it went just wide, past the right side of the goal. Trinity had the edge in corners, 9-2 and shots, 11-4. Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) made one save for Trinity. Juliana Barrasso (Bayport, N.Y.) had four saves in goal for Springfield.
