Springfield, Mass. - Senior tri-captain Liz Caporale (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored two goals as the Trinity College field hockey team edged by the Springfield College Pride on Tuesday evening. The win moves the Bantams one game above .500 to 6-5 while Springfield falls to 5-7.
Springfield took an early 1-0 lead with 23:08 left in the first half after Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) tipped in a shot off a save by Bantam goalie and senior tri-captain Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.). Trinity pulled even just over seven minutes later as Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) sent a crossing pass into the center, deflecting off the stick of Caporale and into the net.
Trinity carried its momentum into the second half, as Finn scored off a feed from Mia Olsen (Granby, Conn.) just 4:01 into the half. A few minutes later, Sydney Doolittle (Milford, Conn.) redirected a pass from Chandler Solimine (Pelham, N.Y.) finding the back of the net to give the Bantams a three-goal advantage.
The Pride wasted no time to answer and scored just over a minute later as Kennedy found Katie Gill (Wallingford, Conn.) in front of the net for the finish. Three minutes later, Kennedy found Gill yet again to equalize the score at three apiece.
Caporale tallied her second goal of the game to seal the victory for the Bantams with 15:20 left in the game. Finn fired a shot on net that was deflected and regained by Doolittle, and sent toward the net before Caporale tapped it in at the goaline.
The Bantams return to action on Saturday, October 17, when they travel to Vermont to take on New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent Middlebury. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
