Northampton, Mass. - Senior co-captain forward Chandler Solimine (Pelham, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 2-0 victory over the Smith College Pioneers in field hockey action this evening. Trinity, ranked No. 9 in the nation, wins its third-straight home opener and will visit No. 13-ranked Williams to open New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play on Saturday, September 8 at noon. Smith hosts Connecticut College on Wednesday night.
Solimine netted the first Trinity goal of the season 6:35 into the contest with an assist provided by junior midfielder Caroline Curtin (Andover, Mass.), and fed sophomore forward Kendall Brown (Greenwich, Conn.) for the game's other marker with just under 10 minutes left before the break. Trinity senior goalkeeper Lori Berger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) needed to make just two saves to record her eighth career shutout, as the Bantam defense held the Pioneers to just four shots and only one after halftime. Freshman goalie Channy Cornell (Arlington, Texas) had eight saves for Smith.
