Springfield, Mass. - The Trinity College Bantams snapped a three-game losing skid and an over 200-minute scoreless streak in a big way with a 5-0 victory against the Springfield College Pride in field hockey action this afternoon at Stagg Field. Visiting Trinity, improves to 6-6, while the Pride falls to 7-6. Trinity visits top-ranked Middlebury in its next game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Bantams took advantage of of an early opportunity in transition to deliver the game's first goal. Junior forward Kendall Brown (Rowayton, Conn.) slipped through the Pride defense for a breakaway chance just over a minute into the game, only to have Springfield goalie Elizabeth Morehouse make a sprawling save. However, the visitors followed up with a pair of shots off rebounds, resulting in senior tri-captain Jordan Ragland (Westport, Conn.) tucking a shot inside the right post at the 1:14 mark. Brown found her way into the scoring column in the 19th minute, as she cleaned up a rebound off Ragland's drive to make it a 2-0 game entering the half.
The visitors tallied their third strike of the game with just under seven minute remaining in the third quarter as Brown delivered a tremendous feed to senior tri-captain Caroline Curtin (Andover, Mass.), who buried a shot on the run to make it a 3-0 contest. Curtin added another goal from Brown with less than a minute left on the clock to give the visitors a four-goal edge. The final goal of the afternoon came from Trinity sophomore midfielder Caelin Flaherty (Upton, Mass.), who flipped a back-handed shot from five yards out into the back of the cage at the 59:21 mark. Morehouse tied her career-high with 11 saves in the setback, and rookie Emma Cropper (Wilton, Conn.) was credited with four stops for the Bantams. For the game, Trinity owned a 25-6 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in penalty corners.
