Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Chris Applegate (High Point, N.C.) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and added eight points to lead the Trinity College Bantams men's basketball team to a 79-59 win over the New York City Tech Yellow Jackets this afternoon on Stan Ogrodnik Court at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 3-3 while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-6 on the season.
Trinity jumped out to a 13-6 lead to start the game, but the Yellow Jackets would chip away, cutting the lead to 21-20 with 8:37 remaining in the first half. The Bantams finished the half strong as part of a 21-2 run, which was enough to distance themselves for good despite the efforts of City Tech junior Gabriel Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who poured in 26 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Junior John Paul Egwuenu (New York, N.Y.) added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
Trinity sophomore Jon Pike (Exeter, N.H.) and junior Luke MacDougal (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) combined for 29 points and 14 rebounds and junior Brian Ford (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 14 points on three-of-six shooting from beyond the arc. Sophomore Salah Abdo (Chelsea, Mass.) and freshman Cameron Sutton (Queens, N.Y.) combined for 11 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds.
