Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College men's basketball team, which will captained by senior center Chris Applegate (High Point, N.C.) this winter, has announced its schedule for the 2011-12 season. Trinity, coached by James Cosgrove (2nd Season), finished the 2010-11 season with a record of 14-12 and finished fourth tied with Tufts for fourth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) at 4-5. The Bantams qualified for the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the 11th consecutive season, defeating Tufts at home in the NESCAC Quarterfinals, 70-47, before losing at Williams in the NESCAC Semifinals, 79-69.
The Bantams will begin the 2011-12 campaign by defending its Golden Bears Hoop Classic Tournament title at Western New England College on Nov. 18 and 19, and will attempt a second title defense at the Harbor Invitational at Mass.-Boston on Nov. 25 and 26. Trinity will participate in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. against Springfield College on Dec. 9 at 5 p.m., and close the calendar year with its own invitational tournament including the Bantams, Elmira, Rivier, and Westfield State. NESCAC play opens at home against Connecticut College on Jan. 6 and continues through the regular-season finale at home against Williams on Feb. 11. Amherst and Worcester Tech join Williams as teams visiting Trinity this season who wereranked among the top 25 teams nationally in the final D3Hoops.com National Poll.
Applegate is a three-year starter for the Bantams, having averaged a team-high 5.5 rebounds and 3.9 ppg to go with a team-high 20 blocked shots and a team-high field goal percentage of .592 (42-71) in 2010-11.
