Men's Basketball Loses At Wesleyan

Men's Basketball Loses At Wesleyan
Middletown, Conn. –  The Wesleyan University Cardinals topped the visiting Trinity College Bantams, 66-58, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's basketball action this afternoon.  Trinity falls to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the Cardinals move to 7-6 and 1-1 in the conference.

Midway through the first half, Wesleyan led by just a point at 14-13.  The Cardinals delivered an early blow to the Bantams, scoring the next 13 points and maintaining a lead of at least eight points the rest of the way.  A late three-pointer by senior captain Mick DiStasio (Yarmouth, Maine), and layups by sophomores Jamil Ebo (Bloomfield, Conn.) and George Papadeas (Athens, Ga.) cut into the Cardinal lead in the final five minutes, but Wesleyan hit several key shots to push the lwead back up double digits.  Trinity could not recover from the early Wesleyan run, as the Cardinals broke a three-game losing streak.

Wesleyan had two players record a double-double in the contest as senior Mike Callaghan scored a game-high 16 points along with 11 rebounds while junior Glen Thomas added 10 points and a game-high 13 caroms.  Two other Cardinals added 11 points to the cause – senior Shasha Brown and sophomore Avery Robinson.  Trinity freshman forward Shay Ajayi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 10 points and Papadreas grabbed a team-high rebounds.
