Trinity Men's Basketball Handles Merchant Marine In Home Opener

Hartford, Conn. - Senior co-captain Chris Turnbull (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 77-45 victory over the visiting United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners in men's basketball action at Oosting Gymnasium this evening.  Trinity improves to 3-3 and snaps a four-game losing streak against the Mariners.  Merchant Marine drops to 1-7 with their third loss in a row.  

Trinity used a 11-0 run in the middle of the first half to turn a 15-14 deficit into a 25-15 lead with 6:21 left in the first half.  Five different Bantams scored during the run which began with a layup by senior co-captain Ed Ogundeko (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and finished with a fast-break layup by junior Eric Gendron (Merrimack, N.H.) after a steal and assist by sophomore guard Paul Colson (Baldwin, N.Y.). The Bantams built their lead back up to 35-20 at halftime on a put-back by Ogundeko, and pushed it up as high as 35 points in the second stanza.

Ogundeko finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Jeremy Arthur (Westbury, N.Y.) grabbed seven boards, senior guard Langdon Neal (Chicago, Ill.) notched five assists and four steals, and Gendron totaled nine points, three assists, and three steals for the Bantams.  Freshman guard Connor Green (Flower Mound, Texas) paced Merchant Marine with eight points, while senior guard Matt Miller (Augusta, Ga.) added team-highs of six rebounds and three assists.  Trinity shot 48.4 percent from the field, including 55.6 percent in the second half, and outrebounded Merchant Marine, 40-18.  The Mariners shot 34.3 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 23 times.
