Superior, Wis. - Senior captain Ryan Pfeffer (Canton, Mass.) scored twice in the first period while rookie Lucas Michaud (South Portland, Maine) added a pair of scores as well as the Trinity College men's hockey team defeated the Wis.-Superior Yellow Jackets in the Superior Showdown on Saturday night in Wisconsin.
No. 10 Trinity improves to 5-2-2 overall and advances to tomorrow night's championship game versus No. 15 Marian who defeated St. Scholastica, 4-3, in the day's other game.
Pfeffer scored twice in the opening period, the first coming at the 11:07 mark thanks to an assist by first-year Devin Moore (Danville, N.H.). Moore also assisted on Pfeffer's second goal of the first period which came just 1:08 after the first.
Trinity added to its lead in the second period when rookie Taggart Corriveau (New Britain, Conn.) potted his first career score with just 23 seconds left in the period. Sophomore James Callahan (Gladstone, N.J.) assisted on Corriveau's goal, his second helper of the evening.
Michaud scored twice for the visitors in the final period to give the Bantams a cushion for the victory. The Yellow Jackets scored three times in the final period to cut the deficit to 5-3 but Trinity held on for the victory. Junior goalie Tedy Loughborough (Wellesley, Mass.) finished the night with 28 saves for the Bantams.
