Cherry Hill, N.J. - The Trinity College Bantams finished fifth in the grand final at the Knecht Cup Regatta on Sunday after qualifying with a third-place finish in its semifinal repechage on Cooper River on Saturday. Trinity's varsity eight finished ahead of sixth-place Virginia by almost ten seconds and was less than seven seconds behind Mercyhurst which took fourth.
Also on Sunday, the Bantam boat in the Division II/III event brought home fifth while Trinity's second varsity eight boasted a third-place effort in the petit final. The second varsity eight finished just 5.14 seconds behind the first-place boat from Marietta and just over three seconds behind second-place Delaware.
On Saturday, the Bantam crew posted a second-place time of 5:56.12 in its preliminary heat and followed up with a time of 5:56.88 in the semifinal race. Mercyhurst won that semifinal race with a time of 5:52.91 and Michigan was second. The Bantams earned third by .77 seconds ahead of a crew from fourth-place Temple.
In other Saturday races, Trinty's entry in the Division II/III event qualified for the grand final with a second-place time of 6:42.81 in their heat. In the second-varsity eight heats, Trinity's boat finished fourth behind three Delaware crews with a time of 6:24.11 to reach Sunday's petit final.
