Hartford, Conn. - Trinity College senior co-captain Johan Detter (Malmoe, Sweden) topped Trinity sophomore Miled Zarazua (Mexico City, Mexico), 3-1, in the First Consolation Finals of the College Squash Association (CSA) Men's National Singles Championship Tournament Pool Division "A" bracket today at the George A. Kellner Squash Center. Each recovered from a first-round loss in the winner's bracket to win three matches in a row and advance to the finals. The 16-person consolation tournament featured a Bantam-laden lineup, including the two finalists, before Detter ended his Trinity career with a win, just one week after Trinity beat Harvard University in the Team National Championship at Yale University.
In the Molloy Division "B" bracket, Trinity rookie Zeyad Elshorafy (Alexandria, Egypt) topped his opponents, 3-2 and 3-1, to win the Second Consolation Tournament, and teammate, junior Matthew Mackin (Greenwich, Conn.), won the First Consolation Tournament with a 3-2 win over Anthony Zou to round out a strong day for the Bantams.
Yesterday, Elshorafy won twice yesterday and once this morning to reach the second consolation finals. Mackin recovered from a loss in the winner's bracket first round to win three times in a row yesterday to advance to today's first consolation final against Anthony Zou.
