No. 2 Men's Squash Cruises Past No. 6 Columbia, 7-2

Hartford, Conn. – The No. 2 Trinity College men's squash team won their sixth straight match on Friday afternoon, topping No. 6 Columbia, 7-2, at the Kellner Squash Center. The Bantams had another dominant performance, holding their opponent to two or fewer points for the sixth consecutive match to improve to 6-0, while the visiting Lions saw their four-match winning streak come to an end as they fall to 4-1.

Trinity was dominant in the early waves, building a lead before Columbia took the matches at No. 1 and No. 2. First-year Rick Penders (Maastricht, Netherlands) won his collegiate debut, 3-0, for the Bantams at No. 6. Three other Trinity players swept their opponents as first-year James Evans (Maidstone, England), sophomore Affeeq Ismail (Kuching, Malaysia) and senior Elroy Leong (Selangor, Malaysia) all blanked members of the Lions at No. 7, 8 and 9, respectively.

The other Bantams to score victories all were junior Juan Vargas (Bogota, Colombia) at No. 3, senior co-captain Moustafa Hamada (Alexandria, Egypt) at No. 4 and senior co-captain Karan Malik (Bangalore, India) at No. 5. The trio all took their matches in four games.

Trinity wraps up a weekend of home action tomorrow evening, Jan. 10, squaring off with the Naval Academy at 5:00 p.m.
