Men’s Squash Win Streak Snapped at 35 Matches After Loss to Rochester

Rochester, N.Y. - The top-ranked Trinity College Bantams lost to the No. 5 Rochester Yellow Jackets on Tuesday evening, snapping the team's 35-match winning streak. The Bantams fall to 6-1 on the year while Rochester improves to 6-1 overall. Before tonight, Trinity's last loss came in January of 2017, also on the road at Rochester. The Bantams return to action on Wednesday for a noon match at Cornell University.

Trinity jumped out to an early lead thanks to a win at No. 9 by senior Nku Patrick (San Fernando, Trinidad) who swept his opponent, allowing just 13 total points. Junior Thoboki Mohohlo (Johannesburg, South Africa) followed with a Bantam victory at No. 3, grinding out a 3-2 victory after winning the deciding game by a score of 11-9. The two wins put Trinity ahead, 2-1 after the first wave.

The lead was short-lived as Rochester took two-of-three in the second wave to tie the overall match at 3-3 entering the final wave. Trinity rookie Aly Tolba (Alexandria, Egypt) came away with a hard-fought, 3-2 triump at No. 5 but wins at No. 2 set up the Yellow Jackets entering the final three matches of the evening.

Rochester swept the last wave, coming out on the right side of two five-game matches at No. 7 and No. 4, respectively. Ashley Davies (Chesterfield, England) won 3-0 at the top spot for the Yellow Jackets to give the hosts a 4-3 lead in the overall match before a Yellow Jacket win at No. 7 sealed the deal.
