Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College men's tennis team picked up its third consecutive victory with a 7-2 win over Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon at the Assaiante Tennis Center on Trinity's campus in Hartford. The Bantams improve to 5-2 overall while the Bears fall to 3-2 on the year. Trinity will look to make it four-straight next weekend when they travel to Maine to take on New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Colby College on Saturday.
Coast Guard won the day's first doubles match at No. 2, but Trinity victories at No. 1 and No. 3 put the Bantams ahead, 2-1, heading into singles play. Senior co-captains Rex Glickman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Kyle Scheffers (Flossmoor, Ill.) continued their strong play as a tandem, winning 8-4 at No. 1 before rookie duo Christopher Bilicic (Chicago, Ill.) and Granville Kaynor (New Orleans, La.) grinded out an 8-6 victory to give the hosts the lead in the team match score.
Bilicic was the first victory for Trinity in singles play as he cruised to a win at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2. Glickman and Scheffers took care of business at No. 1 and No. 2 before junior Chris Caskin (Potomac, Md.) clinched the No. 4 match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory, to give the Bantams a 6-1 advantage. Kaynor won his second singles match in as many days with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 to cap off Trinity's scoring on the day in the team's third-straight win.
