Middletown, Conn. - The Trinity College men's indoor track and field squad put on a dominant display on Friday at a tri-meet at Wesleyan University to close out the 2018 portion of its schedule. Numerous Bantams claimed first-place in different events at the meet which also featured the Connecticut College Camels.
Senior Alex Tomcho (Windsor, Conn.) was the only athlete to finish sub-seven in the 60-meter dash, posting a winning time of 6.98 seconds. Rookie Robert Allen (Bloomfield, Conn.) and senior Samuel Oyebefun (Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis) finished in second and third-place, respectively, as the Bantams swept the top-three spots in the race. Tomcho also won the 400-meter in a tightly contested finals that saw him finish .11 seconds ahead of Wesleyan's runner.
Junior harrier Ace McAlister (Great Barrington, Mass.) won the mile in 4:27.49 and was followed by rookie teammate Tim Lautenbach (Weston, Conn.) who finished just over five seconds behind McAlister. Senior captain Joseph Ruggiero (Manchester, Conn.) dominated the 3,000-meter, taking first-place with a time of 8:59.73, the only sub-nine minute time on the day. The 1,000-meter run came down to the wire as sophomore Stephen Tyler (Weston, Mass.) narrowly edged out rookie teammate Henry Potter (Lake Oswego, Ore.). Tyler finished in 2:35.03, just .09 seconds in front of Potter.
Fellow senior captain Luke Mayer (Morristown, N.J.) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.58. Rookie Kinnard Hughes (Chicago, Ill.) continued his impressive start to his career, winning both the high jump and long jump. Senior Myles Walsh (Winchester, Mass.) rounded out Trinity's first-place performers in the weight throw with a 13.65m mark.
