Trinity Softball Breaks Even On First Day In Florida

Clermont, Fla. - Junior C Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.) went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 5-4 victory over the SUNY-Farmingdale Rams in National Training Center Games softball action this afternoon.  Trinity, which dropped its season opener, 8-1, earlier in the day against The College of New Jersey Lions, evens its season mark at 1-1, while the Rams drop to 3-6 with their third straight loss. The Lions, ranked No. 25 in the nation, are now 9-3.

After Farmingdale scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 4-4, Ostrom belted her third hit of the game to put the game-winning run on base with one out in the bottom of the inning.  Sophomore Haley Yang (Concord, Mass.) ran for Ostrom and scored with two outs on a Ram error off the bat of Trinity first-year Elizabeth McQuaid (Lowell, Mass.).  Trinity freshman RHP Hannah King (Kennebunk, Maine) tossed a five-hitter in the circle, and classmate Erica Correia (Glen Rock, N.J.) added a two-run double off the top of the fence.

The Lions scored all eight of their runs in the opening inning of the earlier game.  Junior tri-captain CF Christina Galese (Fairfield, N.J.) scored the Trinity run with a walk, a wild pitch, and a run-scoring single by Ostrom.  Ostrom and senior tri-captain 1B Kerry McCarthy (Andover, Mass.) had two hits for the Bantams.
