Hartford, Conn. – Senior tri-captain SS Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) went 4-for-7 with a double, a stolen base, two runs, and an RBI to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7/3-2/2 doubleheader sweep in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East Division softball action this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the NESCAC East, taking its home-opening weekend series against the Polar Bears after a 7-2 loss in yesterday's game between the schools.  Bowdoin falls to 12-7 overall and 1-2 in the division.  Erickson's RBI gives her a Trinity-record 104 in her career.  Trinity hosts Coast Guard for two games on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Bowdoin entertains NESCAC East rival Tufts in its home-opening division series next weekend.

Trailing, 1-0, entering the bottom of the third after an unearned run in the top of the inning, Trinity erupted for six runs to take the lead for good in the opener.  Bantam sophomore CF Jenna Thomas (Orange, Conn.) tied the game with an RBI double, while sophomore Hannah Zukowski (Burlington, Conn.) and first-year 2B Maura Keary (Fairfield, Conn.) both had two-run singles in the inning.  Junior Allison Rutz (Essex Junction, Vt.) drove in a run with a single for the Polar Bears in the sixth frame, and Bowdoin had two runners on with none out before Trinity junior tri-captain Lindsay Pressman (Huntington, N.Y.) came in to pitch and got three straight outs to end the threat.  Erickson belted a RBI double to left-center in the bottom of the sixth to pass Ariana Mullin '09 for the Bantam RBI mark.

Trinity struck first in the second game, scoring on a two-out RBI single by Keary, but Bowdoin tied it at 1-1 on a leadoff double by sophomore Maddie Rouhaha (Falmouth, Maine) and an RBI single by Rutz.  Both teams scored in the fifth inning, beginning with the visitors on back-to-back doubles by freshman Kasey Cunningham (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) and senior Caroline Rice (Santa Ana, Calif.).  The Bantams knotted it up at 2-all when Erickson singled with two out, stole second base, and scored on a single by Zukowski.  Bowdoin starter Kate Hoadley (Plaistow, N.H.) and Pressman combined to retire the 10 batters in a row, but Trinity sophomore 3B Cassidy Schiff (Darien, Conn.) when she singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh and scored the game-winning run from third with two outs on a wild pitch.

Trinity junior RHP Madeline Spencer-Orrell (Northampton, Mass.) got the win in the first game, working five-plus innings and allowing seven hits and two runs, one earned, with two strikeouts and no walks.  Bantam first-year hurler Jordan Stephan (South Orange, N.J.) pitched four-plus innings and yielded six hits and two runs with four K's and two walks in the second game, while Pressman allowed just a hit and walk over five innings of scoreless relief in both games and earned the win in game two.  Rutz took the loss in the circle in game one for Bowdoin, while sophomore reliever Ruby Saltinen (Alameda, Calif.) was solid with two hits and no earned runs or walks over 3.1 innings.  Hoadley gave up seven hits and three runs, two earned, with two K's and a walk over 6.2 innings in a hard-luck loss in the nightcap.  Erickson had two hits in each game for Trinity and Rouhaha did the same for the Polar Bear offense.
