Phone: 860-297-4032

Trinity College has announced the appointment of Molly Rathbun as head softball coach.  Rathbun joins the Bantams from Muhlenberg College where she has been the head coach for the last three seasons. Rathbun helped the Mules to their highest win total in five years in 2019.

"We are ecstatic to bring someone of Molly's caliber, who has excelled both as a coach and as a student-athlete here to Trinity and know that she will do a tremendous job leading our softball program," said Trinity Athletic Director Drew Galbraith. "Molly's knowledge of and passion for the game impressed our coaches, student-athletes, and staff and she will be a great addition to the Bantam family."

Rathbun was a four-time All-American pitcher at Eastern Connecticut, where she earned her bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 2012.  She led the Warriors to three Little East Conference championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and two national finishes in the top five (third in 2010 and fifth in 2011).  Rathbun compiled a four-year record of 103-14 with a 0.88 ERA in the circle while batting .390 with 28 home runs. She pitched nine no-hitters and finished her career holding school records for appearances, innings, starts, wins, winning percentage, strikeouts, saves, complete games, shutouts, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage and runs batted in.

Rathbun has coached seven all-conference players and a Golden Glove Award recipient.  Rathbun also has experience as an assistant softball coach for two years at her alma mater and for two seasons at Springfield College while earning her master's degree in sport and exercise psychology.

"I want to thank Drew Galbraith and the members of the search committee for providing me with the opportunity to become a part of the Bantam family," said Rathbun. "Immediately upon my arrival to campus, and after interacting with members of the athletics department and campus community, I knew Trinity was a special place to be. I am humbled and honored to lead such a great program and can't wait to get started on this next chapter of Trinity softball."
