Bronxville, N.Y. - Senior Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) led all players with 14 points while classmate Becky Reifler (Garden City, N.Y.) and rookie Bailey Hyland (Broad Brook, Conn.) both turned in 13 points apiece to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 90-26 victory over the Sarah Lawrence University Gryphons in women's basketball action this afternoon at the Campbell Sports Center.
Trinity improves to 10-1 to close out the calendar year, while the Gryphons drop to 0-10. Trinity will host New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Amherst, ranked No. 7 in the nation, on Friday, January 4 at 7 p.m. in its next game, while Sarah Lawrence visits Farmingdale State on Thursday, January 3 at 3 p.m.
Trinity held the Gryphons to just 26.1 percent shooting from the floor while forcing 28 turnovers. Erickson, Reifler and Hyland were the only three players to finish in double-figures while sophmores Allie Morin (Westwood, Mass.) and Gabrielle Rogers (Raleigh, N.C.) both finished with eight points. Rogers also led the Bantams with eight rebounds while junior Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) dished out a game-high six assists. Sarah Lawrence was paced by Camryn Davis (Moorpark, Calif.) who had nine points and five rebounds.
The Bantams opened a commanding, 27-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Their lead swelled to 56-13 at the half as Erickson scored 12 of her 14 points in the first 20 minutes, followed by Hyland and Morin who both had eight first half points.
After forcing 17 first half turnovers, Trinity turned over the Gryphons 11 more times in the second half. The Bantams outrebounded the Grypons 43-23 in the second half alone and cruised comfortably to the 90-26 victory.
