Women’s Ice Hockey Earns Shutout Win in Season Opener

Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Cassidy McNeeley (South Easton, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist Friday night, helping the Trinity College women’s ice hockey program take its season-opening contest against Johnson & Wales in shutout fashion, 5-0. The Bantams were a force on offense, peppering 42 shots on net in the victory.

Additionally, freshman Ethel Wilhelmsson (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Morgan Bronstein (Pittsford, N.Y.) notched their first career goals, as the Bantams saw five different goal-scorers on the evening.

It took the Bantams just seven minutes to find the back of the net, firing a flurry of shots on Wildcat goaltender Jasmine Mucci (Arlington, Mass.). Sophomore Morgan Bronstein (Pittsford, N.Y.) scored the first Bantam goal of the season, taking a feed from McNeeley to take the lead.

Less than two minutes later, the Bantams doubled its lead; junior Karinna Cave-Hawkins (Annapolis, Md) connected on a pass from junior Martha Peppes (Lincoln, R.I.) with the second helper credited to freshman Mia Fusco (Winchester, Mass.).

Junior Camille von Steinbergs (Brea, Calif.) started off her 2019-20 campaign right where she left off last season, using a feed from sophomore Bailey McKeon (Frisco, Texas) to score the lone second period goal.

After McNeeley’s score saw an assist credited to senior Alex Sinson (Elm Grove, Wisc.), the Bantams saw Wihelmsson bury her first to cap the scoring a five goals.

Senior Kai-Lily Karpman (Playa Del Rey, Calif.) earned her first shutout of the season, making ten saves in the victory.

The Bantams will stay in Hartford this weekend and will play its second game of the season Saturday night against Norwich. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m.
