Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College wrestling squad dropped a dual-match to Oswego State, 27-16, on Saturday afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium in Hartford. The Bantams fall to 2-7 in dual competition while the Lakers improve to 6-6 on the year. Trinity gets right back to it as the Bantams travel to Johnson & Wales tomorrow for the USC Wildcat Open.
The Lakers took an early, 12-6 win as the match's first three bouts were forfeits, two of which went to the visitors. Rocco Russo (Lake View, N.Y.) won the day's first official match via pin, the lone fall of the entire match. Trinity senior co-captain Grant Sorensen (Moore, Okla.) continued his domination at 157 pounds, picking up a 12-1 major decision. Sorensen, the No. 4-ranked wrestler at 157 in the nation, cut the Laker leade to 17-10 after one point was deducted from Oswego's team score due to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Oswego picked up decisions in the next two bouts to take a 23-10 lead before Bantam rookie Anders Klass (Braintree, Mass.) won a hard-fought, 7-3 decision at 184 to give the Bantams three match points. Senior Mason Sangillo (Florham Park, N.J.) capped off the scoring for Trinity with a 6-4 win at heavyweight.
