Sorensen Stars For Trinity Wrestling At USC Wildcat Open

Providence, R.I. - Senior co-captain Grant Sorensen (Moore, Okla.) won five matches, two by fall and three by a combined score of 16-0, to win the 157-pound bracket in the USC Wildcat Open at Johnson and Wales University this afternoon.  Fellow Bantam senior co-captain Jack Reilly (Andover, Mass.) added a fourth-place finish in the 165-pound bracket.

Sorensen won his opening match with a pin in just 27 seconds against Roger Williams' Ryan Grebe, and followed with a pin at 2:26 over NYU's Christian Savino in the second round.  He won, 5-0, in the quarterfinals, 6-0, in the semifinals against NYu's Dylan Dwyer, and, 5-0, over Johnson and Wales' Thomas Grippi in the finals.

Reilly won by fall in just 48 seconds in the first round, by a score of 5-1, in the second round, and again by fall, this time in 3:39 over Bridgewater State's Fox Maxwell in the quarterfinals.  He lost by pin in the semifinals in 3:27, but recovered to shut out his opponent in the consolation finals, 10-0.  In the third-place match, Reilly was pinned in 3:53 to finish 4-2 for the day. 

Trinity junior Lukas Kaminski (Hopkinton, Mass.) also wrestled in the 157-pound bracket, defeating Springfield's Derek Wilson, 19-2, in the first round before losing to Grippi in the second round, 16-0.  Bantam rookie Kevin Lyskawa (Londonderry, N.H.) recovered from an opening-round loss in the same bracket to win, 7-4, in his first consolation match.  Lyskawa went on edge Kaminki, 4-3, in his next bout won, 9-4, in his fourth match of the day before falling, 5-3, in the consolation quarters.  Trinity senior Mason Sangillo (Florham Park, N.J>) went 2-2 at 197 pounds and first-year Anders Klass (Braintree, Mass.) went 1-2 at 184 pounds.
