Williamstown, Mass. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams fell, 28-18, against the Williams College Ephs in the 2019-20 season-opening wrestling dual match for both teams this evening. Trinity outscored the Ephs, 18-16, in the eight bouts but took forfeits at the two lightest weight classes. Trinity and Wlliams will next compete in the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield on Saturday, November 23.
Trinity trailed, 4-3, after two bouts thanks to an 11-4 win by sophomore Kevin Lyskawa (Londonderry, N.H.) at 165 pounds. Senior co-captain Stephen Cerrone (Quechee, Vt.) won by the same score at 174 pounds to give the Bantams their first lead at 6-4. The teams traded pins in the next two classes, as Will Smith won by fall at 184 pounds and Trinity junior 197-pounder Evan Frank (South Salem, N.Y.) did the same to make it, 12-10, in the Bantams' favor halfway through.
In the heavyweight bout, Trinity junior John O'Brien (Reading, Mass.) won a close decision to increase the Bantam lead to five at 15-10. The two forfeits put Williams up, 22-15, and top ranked 141-pounder, Joey Rossetti, earned a pin to push the home team's lead to 28-15. Trinity rookie Nico Patch (Oswego, N.Y.) closed the match with a 7-2 triumph at 149 pounds in his first collegiate action.
