Providence, R.I. - Sophomore Kevin Lyskawa (Londonderry, N.H.) went 4-0 to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-2 record in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals Championships at Rhode Island Convention Center this afternoon.  Trinity lost its first match to Springfield, 37-16, and its second to Rhode Island College, 33-15, but rallied to defeat Norwich, 28-15, and Wesleyan, 27-24.  The in over the Cardinals was Trinity's first since 2003-04 and snapped a 16-match losing streak against them.  Trinity is now 3-7 in dual matches with a tri-match at Roger Williams with Worcester Polytechnic Institute up next on Saturday at 11 a.m. Lyskawa represented the Bantams on the NEWA Duals All-Tournament squad.  Prior to the final day's competition, Trinity wrestling alum Joe Adam '86 was honored as a NEWA Hall of Fame inductee.

Trinity gave up 18 points against Springfield, Rhode Island College, and Wesleyan, and 12 against Norwich.  Bantam first-year Nico Patch (Oswego, Ill.) pinned Springfield's Joseph Parsons in the 149-pound match, and Lyskawa earned a major decision at 157 pounds to cut an 16-0 deficit to 16-10, but the Pride won four of the final five bouts.  Rookie Isaiah Bailey (Westerly, R.I.) won by fall in just 1:12 over Springfield's Nicholas Almonte to get the Bantams to 16 points.

Against Rhode Island College, sophomore Haroldo Nesbeth (Inglewood, Calif.) pinned Frank Roman at 141 pounds and Lyskawa, ranked No. 2 in New England, posted an 8-4 decision over No. 4-ranked Sam Lindbolm at 157 pounds to offset two early forfeits and make the score, 15-9, halfway through the match.  Bailey and sophomore 184-pounder Anders Klass (Braintree, Mass.) won decisons for Trinity, but the Anchormen won by forfeit at the two heaviest weight classes to pull away.

Nesbeth, Patch, and Lyskawa won back-to-back-to-back against Norwich to turn a 6-0 deficit into a 10-6 lead at the midpoint of Trinity's third match of the day. Brandon DesFosses win for the Cadets at 165 pounds to make it, 10-9, but Bailey, Klass moving up to 197 pounds, and sophomore heavyweight John O'Brien (Reading, Mass.) each won by fall for Trinity to secure the first Bantam win of the afternoon.  Bailey pinned Niko Chitty, ranked No. 7 in New England, in 1:36.

The Wesleyan match saw five forfeits, but ended in a Bantam victory in dramatic fashion.  Patch defeated Wesleyan's Dario Molina, 6-4, in overtime to give Trinity its first points but the Bantams still trailed, 15-3.  After two Cardinal forfeits, a narrow win (6-4) by Wesleyan's No. 2-ranked 174-pounder Marco Gaita for Bailey's lone loss of the day, and a Trinity forfeit at 184, the Bantams were behind, 18-15, with two matches remaining. Klass pinned Pablo Sanchez in 1:08 and O'Brien did the same against Harrison Karp in 3:33 to lift Trinity to a three-point win and 13th-place in the tournament.
