Trinity Wrestling Drops Three Tough Decisions In Quad Match At Roger Williams

Bristol, R.I. - Sophomore Kevin Lyskawa (Londonderry, N.H.) and rookie Isaiah Bailey (Westerly, R.I.) each went 3-0, as the Trinity College Bantams participated in a wrestling quad match at Roger Williams University this afternoon.  Trinity lost all three of its team decisions, 31-18, against the host Hawks, 42-15, against the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers, and, 33-18, versus the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats.  Trinity, now 3-10 in dual matches, suffered 11 losses and 66 points in forfeits but won 11 of 19 individual bouts for the afternoon.

Against Roger Williams, Trinity fell behind, 18-0, after forfeits at the three lightest weight classes, but cut its deficit in half thanks to a pin by first-year 149-pounder Nico Patch (Oswego, Ill.) and a 10-5 decision at 157 pounds by Lyskawa.  Trinity senior co-captain Stephen Cerrone (Quechee, Vt.) lost a close match, 7-4, at 165 pounds but Bailey answered with a 21-12 win at 174 pounds to make it, 21-12, with three bouts left.  Trinity sophomore John O'Brien (Reading, Mass.) recorded the lone Trinity win of the three with a pin at 6:54 in the heavyweight class.

The Worcester Tech match began with the 165-pounders, and the Engineers earned a pin in the match to go ahead, 6-0.  Bailey pinned Brendan Marion in 1:26 to tie it at 6-all but the Engineers won the next two matches by fall to go ahead, 18-6.  O'Brien registered his second pin of the day in just 1:04, but WPI racked up 24 points in a row on forfeits to lead, 42-12, before Lyskawa closed the match with a 10-5 victory.

Trinity fell behind the Wildcats, 18-0, on three forfeits, but tied the match at 18-apiece after pins by Lyskawa and senior co-captain 165-pounder Lukas Kaminski (Hopkinton, Mass.) and winning decisions by Patch and Bailey.  Nick Caracappa won the 184-pound match by fall, and Jordie Perez edged Cerrone, who had moved up to 197 pounds, 8-6, to put the match out of Trinity's reach.
