Trinity Women's Rowing Wins Two Petite Finals At Erie Canal Duals

Rome, N.Y. - The Trinity College first- and second-varsity eight crews each won the petite final in the Erie Canal Women's Rowing Duals this afternoon.  Trinity's varsity eight recovered from a third-place finish in its heat against the Hamilton College Continentals and the Franklin and Marshall College Diplomats to dust the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds by over 30 seconds in the petite final with a time of 7:48.9.  The Bantam boat had posted a time of 7:48.1 in its heat, but the Diplomats edged them by .07 seconds to earn the spot in the grand final.  Trinity's second-varsity eight finished 30.3 seconds behind Hamilton in its heat at 8:26.3, but rallied to finish 35 seconds ahead of Franklin and Marshall in the petit final with a time of 8:13.8.  In the third-varsity eights race, Trinity posted a time of 8:22.9 but lost by nine seconds to the Continentals.

"Our morning results were not quite what we were hoping for, as both our 1V8 and 2V8 struggled to find the right rhythms for their respective crews," said Trinity Head Coach Heather Barney (2nd Season). "We were really pleased with how they responded, though.  Both crews had significantly better afternoon rows and did a lot of learning over the course of the day.  In the 3V8, we laid down an aggressive first 500, but will need to get better at sustaining the rhythm and intensity through the middle thousand. Overall, though, we were pleased with the progress being made by this all freshman/novice group.  We're looking forward to another productive week of training before heading to Tufts next weekend to see the Jumbos as well as Middlebury and Coast Guard."
