Kate Hickes joins the Trinity College women's rowing coaching staff for the 2019-20 season. Hickes comes from Glastonbury High School where she most recently served as head coach. She is a 2015 graduate of Bucknell University with a bachelor's degree in International Relations.
“I feel tremendously fortunate to have Kate joining our staff,” said Trinity Head Coach Heather Barney. “She brings infectious enthusiasm for rowing, as well as impressive experience both as a student-athlete and as a coach. I know that her passion for the sport will inspire our student-athletes and help them to develop as rowers, coxswains and people.”
The Allentown, Pennsylvania, native brings Division I competitive experience to Trinity, as she coxed for four years at Bucknell University. Hickes the varsity four to gold at the Patriot League Championships as a sophomore and the lightweight eight to bronze at the IRA National Championships as a junior. In her senior season she led the Bison varsity eight to silver at the Patriot League Championships. Earning all-conference honors in her final year at Bucknell, Hickes went on to become the assistant coach at Glastonbury High School in 2016. She helped Glastonbury win the 2018 Connecticut Public Schools State Championship as an assistant coach, and was elevated to head coach soon afterwards. Hickes has also spent time coaching at Central Connecticut Rowing in Middletown.
