Women's Squash Blanks Bates, 9-0, in Season Opener

Hartford, Conn. – The No. 2 ranked Trinity College women's squash team opened its national title defense with a 9-0 shutout victory versus Bates at the Kellner Squash Center on Saturday afternoon. The Bantams are 1-0 on the year and dating back to last season have won six straight, while the Bobcats fell to 0-1 with the loss.

Trinity was dominant winning seven of nine matches in three games as junior Kanzy El Defrawy (Cairo, Egypt) swept her match at No. 1, so did sophomore Anna Kimberley (Colchester, England) at No. 2, senior co-captain Ashley Tidman (Lamor-Plage, France) at No. 3, senior Chanel Erasmus (Capetown, South Africa) at No. 5, senior co-captain Natalie Babjukova (Prague, Czech Republic) at No. 6, first-year Karolina Holinkova (Krnov, Czech Republic) at No. 7 and sophomore Alexia Echeverria (San Salvador, El Salvador) at No. 8.

In her first collegiate match, Salma El Defrawy (Cairo, Egypt) won in four games, while sophomore Brice Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a come-from-behind five-game win at No. 9 for the Bantams.

Trinity wraps up a home weekend of action on Sunday, Nov. 16, with matches versus New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rivals Middlebury and Bowdoin. The contest with the Panthers is slated for 10:00 a.m. and the match the Polar Bears gets underway at 2:00 p.m.
