Trinity Women's Swimming And Diving Posts Five Winners In Season-Opening Tri-Meet At Wesleyan

Middletown, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams dropped decisions against the host Wesleyan University Cardinals, 180-114, and the Bates College Bobcats, 193-94, in a season-opening women's swimming and diving tri-meet this afternoon.  Bates edged Wesleyan, 154-139, to win twice in the afternoon.  Trinity sophomore diver Lia Urban-Spillane (Rochester, N.Y.) swept both events, while first-year Zoryanna Matlashewski (Anoka, Minn.) won twice, and fellow rookie Olivia Fournier (Southington, Conn.) won once.

Urban-Spillane won the one-meter diving by a score of 218.65 and the three-meter event with a score of 207.10, while first-year diver Grace Chouinard (Natick, Mass.) finished third behind off the one-meter board at 174.65.  Matlashewski won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:08.84 and the 200-yard IM at 2:13.83, while Fournier took first in the 50-yard freestyle at 25:41.  Fournier was also third in the 50-yard freestyle (55.75), while sophomore Serena Ly (West Newton, Mass.) and freshman Aurelia Umholtz (Flagstaff, Ariz.) were third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.30) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.29), respectively.
