Trinity Women's Swimming And Diving Falls To Connecticut College

Hartford, Conn. - Junior Audrey Ettinger (New Canaan, Conn.) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.53, as the Trinity College Bantams came up short in a 195-98 decision against the visiting Connecticut College Camels in women's swimming and diving action this afternoon at Trinity Natatorium.  Trinity, playing in its lone home competition of the 2018-19 season, falls to 3-3, while the Camels improve to 3-2.  The Bantams will visit Bowdoin on Saturday, January 26 at 3 p.m. in their next meet.

Ettinger edged Connecticut College's Lexi Rauth by .19 seconds in the 200-yard fly, and sophomore teammate Katherine Greer (Summit, N.J.) was third in the race at 2:20.32.  Bantam sophomore diver Lia Urban-Spillane (Rochester, N.Y.) put up solid scores off both boards with 397.80 off the one-meter board and 239.02 off the three-meter board to win both events.  Trinity picked up 32 points in the two diving events with three competitors against none for Connecticut College.  All three Bantams scored over 300 off the one-meter board on 11 dives.

Five different Bantams boasted runner-up finishes in individual races, including sophomore Grace Gorman (Sudbury, Mass.) and rookies Olivia Fournier (Southington, Conn.), Serena Ly (West Newton, Mass.), Zory Matlashewski (Anoka, Minn.), and Aurelia Umholtz (Flagstaff, Ariz.).  Ly was just .37 seconds behind the winner in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.28.  Gorman came in second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.02, while Umholtz took second in the 100-butterfly at 1:02.28, Fournier was second in the 100-yard free at 55.64, and Matlashewski placed second in the 200-yard IM at 2:15.69.
