Trinity Women's Swimming And Diving Suffers First Loss At Bates

Lewiston, Maine - Junior diver Lia Urban-Spillane (Rochester, N.Y) won both diving events, as the visiting Trinity College Bantams lost a 206-94 decision against the Bates College Bobcats in women's swimming and diving action this afternoon.  Trinity falls to 0-1-1, while the Bobcats improve to 2-0.  Urban-Spillane posted a winning score of 229.49 in the one-meter diving and a first-place score of 243.90 off the three-meter board.  Trinity junior Grace Chouinard (Natick, Mass.) was third in both diving events.  Bates won all the swimming events.

Trinity junior Samantha McStocker (Weston, Conn.) came in second place in both the 50- and 100-yard backstroke races.  Sophomore Serena Ly (West Newton, Mass.) was second in the 50-yard breaststroke and third in the 100-yard breaststroke, while classmate Ruby Schiller (Cambridge, Mass.) was second in the 50-yard butterfly.  Sophomores Olivia Fournier (Southington, Conn.) and Aurelia Umholtz (Flagstaff, Ariz.) were 2-3 in the 100-yard freestyle, respectively.  Bantam sophomore Zoryanna Matleshewski (Anoka, Minn.) and first-year Rory Woods (Milford, Conn.) were second and third, respectively, in the 500-yard free.  In the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay, McStocker, Fournier, Ly, and sophomore Emily Murphy (Gansevoort, N.Y.) came in second place, just .16 seconds out of first.  In the final race, Trinity's Fournier, Murphy, Umholtz, and rookie Rachel Papalski (Flemington, N.J.) finished second in the 200-yard free relay at 1:42.46.
